Island of Peace Cozumel will officially be named as the 'Island of Peace' this 10th of July 2009 by the International Committee for the Banner of Peace, a non-governmental organization affiliated with the UN, headed by Dr. Alicia Rodriguez (the first Mexican woman nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize). An especial ceremony will be celebrated at the Quintana Roo Park. This is the first time that such a distinction will be delivered to a municipality, and the island of the swallows will be the first to receive this in the whole country. This distinctive will put Cozumel as an example by lifting the representative banner. The UN has given us this honor thanks to the good results of the work done, and because Cozumel has no record of any military conflict since the ancient Maya to the present. This means that Cozumel is a quiet and safe place to have a great vacation.
